Welcome to the website of Kazantzakis Publications, the Athens-based establishment which publishes and distributes exclusively the works of Nikos Kazantzakis and those of his wife, Eleni N. Kazantzakis.
An abundance of information concerning Nikos Kazantzakis circulates this very moment in the World Wide Web, a great deal of which lacks accuracy and validity. Kazantzakis Publications have created this website with reliable and substantiated information and rich photographic material, with our primary objective always in our mind, the promotion of the work of the great, ecumenical author in Greece and across the world. Here you will find information about the entire work of the great Cretan author Nikos Kazantzakis, whose work is still relevant over half a century after his death.
When one reads the works of Nikos Kazantzakis, one learns to transubstantiate pain and misery into dignity, tenacity and transcendence. In the core of his work lies the neverending struggle for spirituality and inner freedom, encapsulated in the concept of the Cretan Glance: to stare at fear with fearlessness, with dignity, courage and tenacity; to live and to create as if one were immortal.
The works of Nikos Kazantzakis break the boundaries of time and space; as they are timeless they offer great wisdom for every generation. His thought is ecumenical. This is why we strive to make his work reach every corner of this Earth - so that everyone may have access to it in their own language or dialect. This is the main concern and aspiration of Kazantzakis Publications, and we endeavor to achieve it, steadily and responsibly, always respecting the creative will of Nikos Kazantzakis and the vision of the founder of our publishing house, Eleni N. Kazantzakis.
In this effort, the two principal biographers of Nikos Kazantzakis - his wife and partner in life and spirit, Eleni N. Kazantzakis, and his compatriot and cordial friend, Pandelis Prevelakis - are the primary sources of information for our website.
The audio in our introductory page belongs to the masterly musical adaptation of Nikos Kazantzakis’s epic work The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel and it was composed by the great musician of Crete, Manos Mountakis. Our website, designed by the artist Christos Tsiakiris, offers authentic and valid material through a clear presentation, making it user-friendly as well as aesthetically pleasing in an effort to recreate, as much as humanly possible, a concrete image of the life and work of the unyielding and uncompromising proud man of Crete, Nikos Kazantzakis.
We hope that our website will be a useful companion to the pupil, the student, the teacher, the professor, the researcher, the scholar, the reader and to everyone who loves, or would like to know, the works of Nikos Kazantzakis.
